Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather. ~John Ruskin

A Warming Planet

Temperature is very important to people; they want to know it so they know how to dress, if they will be able to do an activity outside, or if they will need to turn on the heater or air conditioner at home.  Temperature has become even more important to people as we realize that the Earth is warming faster and faster.

Do some research - and no, Wikipedia can't be your primary source - to determine one of the effects of a warming planet.  What else changes as average temperature rises?  Don't go for the obvious; in fact, you need to read the responses that are submitted before yours, and you can't repeat another person's findings.  (How's that for an inducement to do your homework early?)

As always, proofread for spelling, punctuation, proper grammar usage, complete sentences, and clarity.  It's acceptable to have someone help you with proofreading!

  1. Global warming is not only going to affect our generation, is going to affect our future and the future of this planet. As temperatures keep rising, they are going to impact us, especially at the Earth’s poles. For example, mountain glaciers, ice sheets covering West Antarctica and Greenland, and Arctic sea ice are all melting. not only is affecting the land, is affecting animal life in those parts of the world. an extreme amount of penguins are dying because of the change in temperatures. Furthermore, since the ice sheets are melting day by day, the water level is rising causing coastlines to change in the future. For example, Florida might become thinner and smaller because the water level is going to rise up and take out some of the land. Now, since water levels are rising and temperatures are ascending, the hurricanes in the future are going to be stronger and unsafe. Moving aside from animal life, the diseases in the future are going to spread quickly such as malaria because of the storms and constant flooding. in conclusion, global warming will play a huge role in the changing of earths environment and animal life.

  2. With temperature rising above average, it comes to sound as a huge risk. Many life throughout the whole world will be greatly affected. Places with huge blocks of ice will be drastically affected, causing it to melt the ice slowly. With ice melting, it'll eventually turn into water which will spread throughout and expand. Expansion of water will need a way to spread, which can cause it to flood certain land and ocean levels will rise higher. Animals that live around the Arctic and who are accustomed to certain temperatures will eventually affect that can cause them to extinct since temperatures are rising. Not only with icy lands will it affect, but also crops and agriculture throughout the world. For example, crops can't be grown in the desert due to the type of climate. Which temperature really affects how plants, vegetables, and other crops grow. They will either die out or won't ever have the chance to grow. Other crops, it can cause human fatalities. With above average temperature, there is a higher risk of a heat stroke, asthma, or even other respiratory diseases. With all this, it'll cause many deaths between people since they can't withstand the heat. The future ahead of us lies ahead and looks very dangerous.

  3. Global Warming will not only affect the next generations it has started to affect us in many different ways that we may have not even noticed. The way that it has directly affected many people is through heat waves. The heat wave in Europe killed 70,000 people which is a significant number of deaths for a heat wave. In 1995 there was a heat wave in Chicago that killed over 700 people in one week. Heat waves have also killed people who had air conditioning, they are extremely dangerous. These heat waves are all because of global warming and will continue to get stronger if the problem get worse.

  4. One of the effects of a warming planet is the increase in animals that do not belong in one place because of temperature changes. For example “Some butterflies, foxes, and alpine plants have moved farther north or to higher, cooler areas (Page 1)”.Also “Spruce bark beetles have boomed in Alaska thanks to 20 years of warm summers. The insects have chewed up 4 million acres of spruce trees (Page 1)”. These insects do not belong in these places and they are affecting the eco system dramatically. Also, as the average temperature rises, precipitation (rain and snowfall) increases across the globe, on average. This will affect and disrupt the eco system. If there is more rain in places that there should not be a lot of rain, new insects or species of animals can migrate to those places, and disrupt the eco system. Also too much snow can create harsher winters and more blizzards. Conclusively the increase in average temperatures will create more droughts in a lot of regions. For example, “Warmer temperatures mean more precipitation will fall as rain, not snow, and more snow will melt earlier in the spring. Much of Washington’s water supply is stored in snow pack and glaciers that melt into rivers. As this stored snow recedes to higher elevations, less will be available to feed river (Page 1)”. This shows me that droughts will not only affect the amount of water we receive, it will also affect fish migrations.

  5. One of the effects to Earth warming is the north warming up. If the north warms up that gives room for diseased insects to migrate up north spreading diseases that we may not have a cure for. Another effect is the polar caps melting. As the polar caps melt that puts us in jeopardy of our coast being reformed; it wouldn't affect the mid-west but it would destroy the states on the sea coast. Besides these conditions human psychology would change because of rising temperature. As it gets hotter most people in urban areas cause trouble. As you may notice in the summer time crime rates increase and in the winter it decreases. Cars may be helpful, but what comes out of it is harmful and deadly to the environment.

  6. There are lots of effects of a planet being warmed and the one I think is most dangerous is Rising Seas. If the sea level rises it will flood the whole country or most likely the whole world and everyone will die the reason the sea level will increase is because one earth is getting warmer and it causes the glaciers to melt. As temperatures rises it will impact our food supply, water resources, infrastructure, ecosystems, and even our own health.

  7. The reason why our planet is warming is because of the North Pole to South Pole, and everywhere in between these areas. The heat is not only melting glaciers and sea ice. Also it is moving precipitation patterns. Some impacts were the temperatures are increasing right now. Ice is melting everywhere; the sea level has risen over time faster over the last century. Butterflies, foxes, and alpine plants have moved farther north to cooler areas because it is too hot. Rain and snowfall has increased all-round the world. And if this keeps continuing the weather will become more and more dangerous.

  8. There are many effects on us and mother earth from the raise in temperatures. But the effects of mother earth effect us even more. So a few effects are the rise and spread of diseases. So with the warm areas that contain creepy and dangerous insects, the Northern countries steady temperature rise allows the dangerous disease carrying insects to migrate towards us. Also because of these rising temperatures malaria was not able to be eradicated. Another dangerous effect with the rising temperatures is warmer water. As we learned a hurricane is formed and given energy from warm water. So this allows hurricanes to occur more frequently. Which can cause more destruction and deaths on the lands humans live on.

  9. One of the effects of a warming planet better known as global warming is the increase of hurricanes. The increase of hurricanes will be a result of the warmer the planet the warmer the waters will be. In the past 30 years alone the amount of category 4 and 5 hurricanes have doubled! With around New Jersey during the summer is around the low seventies. But, as global warming continues the waters will easily soar above 80 which feels great but the super warm waters will amplify the power of the storms. With the hotter temperature the greater the amount of evaporation that would fuel the storms. Causing explosive amounts of damage that can easily wash a house way and kill thousands. It would have the potential of being much worse than Isaac's storm in the 1900’s.

  10. Global warming can worsen people's allergies. The increase in temperation can cause more pollen. It also can extend the pollen season. Studys show that with the increase of greenhouse gases CO2, plants will produce more pollen. There is way to muvh CO2 being produced with means more heat being trapped. It will get so bad that people who don't really have allergies will be effected and common medicines like benedryl won't even help. This can create a problem in healthcare because all the sick people. I mean billions of dollars will have to be uses for healthcare.

  12. the rising temeperature of global warming has a huge effect on the atmosphere but that intence heat is also affecting the oceans. As the oceans warm, they expand and swell up which causes sea levels to rise up. this can be very dangerous for coastlins because as the sea levels rise up, more of the coast gets covered by water. Florida is a major state that can be affected by this.

  13. An interesting idea I want to raise is how the planet's rising temperatures will effect air travel. Scientists have stated that by the middle of this century, clear-air turbulence will become more dangerous and violent and more airplanes will become prone to being involved in those intense winds. Those intense winds will also increase the risks of injuries and deaths on airplanes and could possibly damage airplanes in the process. Airplanes will have to begin making several detours and change various routes, which will surely raise the price of airplane tickets as well.
