Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather. ~John Ruskin

  1. At first, as everyone in the class could see, our project looked as if it would turn out a complete disaster. But as we kept building, we realized that the Himilayas had a very complex structure. We learned that the Himilayas were more than just a bunch of mountains and that they affected the entire world's weather. The project came out really great with a lot of accurate and creative detail. The project really helped us understand more than just researching the information because we could actually see how the weather affected the area around the Himalayas.

  2. My groups project turned out well. We created a model of the mountain an painted the sections of the mountain according to the climate at that altitude you're at or side of the mountain you're on. I learned that the climate changes are very drastic. You can be at the same altitude on the same mountain but on different sides. Your position can make the diffence from you being in a tropical jungle or a dry plain desert.

  3. This project has been one of the most exciting things I've done in the class. I loved studying the culture of the Himalayas and about their mythology. Mythology is so interesting to me because it focuses in the study of the unnatural and I love learning about different mythical creatures in the world. This project has helped me come up with a new hero story I'm working on. Learning about mythology was a great project for me and I want to show people my knowledge on mythology.

  5. My group's project had somewhat of a shaky route to go on, but in the end, the whole project turned out well. I'm honestly not used to learning about a subject through a project or lab, so this has been an experience out of my comfort zone. Though in the end, I've increased my vocabulary through research, have a much better idea about leeward and windward sides of a mountain through actually making a mountain, and why alpine climate can be a tough one to understand. I'm glad that my group did this project, it was a turn for the better, and I can't wait to share some of this information for those interested.

  6. Our project started out a little shaky at first, because for awhile we didn't have a concrete plan set out. But after a few days, we got started and I must say that the project was fun, and I got some knowledge out of it. Im glad we had the chance to do this project, and I'm eager to share my knowledge with others.

  7. I had a more in depth look at Sherpa life than I would have had without this project. I now know what truly makes them what they are and why people are so fascinated with them. I think my article turned out well and was informative. I learned more by researching the material myself and writing the article than I would have by someone just telling me. This was a good way to learn it.

  9. First off, let me say I enjoyed working on my Himalaya Project. I firmly believe that my project taught me alot of valuable information, not only about the Himalayan Mountains but Plate Tectonics as well. The project was a different, but a great interactive way to learn something new. It also taught me a little discipline and perservance. At times it seem like our project ideas would not materialize, but my group work through it and got it done.

  10. In the beginning of our project it did not seem as like we knew what we were doing. We did have a plan and stuck to it and even though it seemed as if we were going to succeed. The final product turned out better than anyone in the class expected with great detail. We learned that the Himalayas are very complex structure that affect the world's climate and weather in a very significant way. This way of learning was very fun, we were able to learn new things but at the same time enjoy what we were learning. Our group did have some obstacles but as a team we were able to get over them and come up with a very accurate model of the Himalayas.

  11. This was an exciting project to work on. It allowed us to have fun and, at the same time, we had to work. One of the many things I learned how they used folklore in the past. Some of these were really funny, such as "if cows lay on high ground then good weather is meant to come." This improved my understanding of how meteorology was used in the past and what changed now in the present. I enjoyed learning in this way because of the interactions I had with my peers; learning what they did, and understanding meteorology as a whole.

  12. Our group worked on the difference between how meteorology was done in the past and how it is done now. I, myself, learned how folklore was used to tell what the weather was going to be. I had no idea that it was so simple in the past. I had fun working with my partners. We were able to balance the fun with the work, such as when music was being played while we worked.

  13. In my group, we studied avalanches. In my honest opinion, I feel as though my group did very well. We researched different kinds of avalanches such as slab, wet snow, etc. We showed what can cause such avalanches and also what kind of damage can be done. Along with that, we researched some of the recent avalanches in the Himalayas and around the world, such as the Wellington Avalanche. Finally, not to be conceded, but we had a very well made model mountain. We will be showing a small demonstration of what an avalanche can look like on Thursday night.

  14. Our project was interesting and turned out pretty well. I learned about the Prayer Flags being hung at the top of the Himalayas, their purpose, and the religions that use them. I also learned about the animal gods on each prayer flags and their elements that helps the weather of the people who live close to the Himalayas. The hardest part of our project was our slides. We had to keep recreating copies of it and save it so many times but in the end it was fun. I liked this project and hope to learn like this again.

  15. Thanks to this project, I feel like I have a much deeper understanding of Sherpa life. I now know that there is more to Sherpa life than just climbing mountains and guiding people. It feels good to feel like I got to know about a group of people that are totally different from us. This was a much better way to learn instead of just being told by someone else. It was a very good experience.

  16. I found the work and all the research pretty fun it helped me learn even more about the sherpas than I already did. The powerpoint is more or less just a guide for the people who don't know about the prayer flags. I am the teacher with the things I learned I feel like I'm teaching in a way.

  17. Our group's project turned out neat and percise even though we started late on the actual designs of our project. I liked working hands on and finding information. The model allowed me to see a firsthand look at what I was learning about. The information really stuck with me and I believe I can teach someone what I learned about the formation of the Himalayas.

  18. When my group and I first started to build the Himalayas, we took many measurements which later on we converted to inches. The reason why we did that was because we wanted the project to be as realistic as possible. When it came to the building part we literally did not know how to start. Our mountains looked really bad and it could not stand by it self. As the time pass we started to work more in the project which now i believe is a great looking project. My group and i realized that if we made an example of the Himalayas, it would be much easy to explain the wind patters and all other amazing things that the Himalayas have, including the effect that it have in the surrounding areas. vitor nunes

  19. Our Asia project turned out with a lot of facts about the Sherpas that i had no idea about until we started to work on the Asia project. I learned about the life style of and the religion of the Sherpas. It was something new to me. It was pretty difficult to find the information we needed at times. The Sherpas a very religious and they pray to the mountain gods to protect them especially on their journey up the mountains. I think work this way is beneficial because we learned good information and worked as a team.

  20. The project that I did with Zakee turned out good. I learned about the Ganga River, the Wind Horse, the Tiger and the Snow Lion. I learned that the Ganga River is an important to the Hindus. Whoever bathes in the river they would be cleansed from sin and those who follow the Mother Ganga would be given knowledge, purity, and peace. I also learned that the Wind Horse, the Tiger, and the Snow Lion bestow strength, knowledge, courage, and peace to their followers.

  21. I thought the project was very interesting because I was able to learn about Sherpa. I worked on Sherpa religion and rituals which a lot of people do not know about. I like learning this way becasue I am forced to look up information so I can do a good job on the project. So overall I enjoy learning this way.

  22. At first when we started our research on avalanches I was overwhelmed with information. Such as the types of avalanches such as wet snow etc. in my groups presentation we demonstrate how avalanches can be caused such as by a simple snow boarder or skier. Also my group created a model avalanche that will be triggered by sound of a falling object. I belive we have a very well constructed project and and I am really looking forward to our demostration on avalanches.
